More than 400 CWA members attended the 2008 Legislative Conference which focused on the union's four major goals: passage of the Employee Free Choice Act, affordable health care, jobs and fair trade policies, and retirement security. Delegates heard from presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama, visited lawmakers' offices on Capitol Hill and discussed top legislative priorities.
CWA Secretary-Treasurer Barbara Easterling called this fall's elections "the greatest election opportunity of our lifetime," citing CWA's mission "to build a political movement to restore bargaining rights in America. If we do our jobs and work as never before," said Easterling at her last legislative conference as CWA's Secretary-Treasurer, "come Election Day we will win and we will usher in a powerful new movement to change America for generations to come."
